Causes of Calf Muscle Pain

Trauma or Injury

Commonly, the legs are susceptible to injuries. In particular, the calves can sustain damage due to various reasons such as falls, collisions with objects, or being struck by others. These occurrences often result in the compression of the calf muscles against the bone, causing internal bleeding within the muscle. Depending on the situation, the leaked blood may form a bruise or hematoma if it escapes outside the muscle. However, if the blood remains trapped inside the muscle, swelling might be the only noticeable symptom.

Claudication: Insufficient Blood Flow During Exercise

Claudication occurs when the muscles do not receive an adequate supply of blood during physical activity. It is commonly observed when individuals walk at a pace or duration beyond their usual routine, resulting in varying degrees of muscle pain. Claudication is considered a symptom that indicates an underlying condition, such as peripheral artery disease. However, the pain typically subsides after a brief period of rest.
