Causes of Shortness of Breath

Understanding Collapsed Lung

A collapsed lung, also known as a pneumothorax, can occur due to various factors such as traumatic accidents, lung diseases like pneumonia, blocked airways, or post-surgical procedures in the abdomen or chest region. While a small collapse may not immediately manifest noticeable symptoms, a larger collapse can cause difficulty in breathing and a rapid heartbeat.

COPD: A Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a persistent respiratory condition characterized by the obstruction of airflow in and out of the lungs. This inflammatory disease can be triggered by various factors, such as exposure to toxins like cigarette smoke, certain gases, or severe allergies. Individuals with COPD commonly experience symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and excessive mucus production. If left untreated, COPD can progress and significantly raise the risk of developing lung cancer, heart disease, and other respiratory disorders.
