Causes of Water Retention

Nephrotic Syndrome: Understanding Kidney Problems

Nephrotic syndrome is a condition in which the body loses protein through urine, resulting in inadequate protein levels to regulate fluid flow. This abnormality in fluid regulation can lead to the accumulation of fluid in various parts of the body, such as edema around the eyes and in the legs. Additionally, kidney failure and chronic kidney disease can contribute to the retention of water in the tissues.

Understanding Heart Failure

Heart failure is a condition that occurs when the heart becomes too weak to effectively pump blood throughout the body. This results in a disruption of blood flow, often leading to fluid buildup in the extremities. Typically, individuals with heart disease experience dysfunction in the left ventricle, which is responsible for receiving blood from the lungs. Due to its weakened state, the left ventricle is unable to adequately remove the blood it receives, causing an accumulation of excess blood and subsequent increase in pressure. As a consequence, this pressure forces blood into the air sacs, leading to a condition known as pulmonary edema or fluid in the lungs.
