Causes of Water Retention

Understanding Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a condition characterized by the excessive permeability of the capillaries in the respiratory system, leading to the accumulation of an excessive amount of fluid in the surrounding tissues. This fluid buildup primarily occurs in the alveoli, which are the small air sacs in the lungs. Unfortunately, ARDS is associated with a high mortality rate. However, medical professionals and researchers are optimistic that by minimizing lung water retention and expediting the reabsorption process, the life-threatening symptoms of ARDS can be mitigated or even reversed.

Crohn’s Disease: Uncommon Symptoms and Complications

Crohn’s disease, classified as an inflammatory bowel disease, can give rise to various unexpected symptoms and complications. One such uncommon symptom involves the swelling of the genitals, specifically the penis and scrotum in males and the labia in females. While this symptom is rare, limited research has been conducted to explore this particular form of edema. Experts suggest that it may be attributed to a condition called granulomatous lymphangitis, characterized by the growth of clusters of inflammation known as granulomas within the lymphatic system. It is worth noting that this type of edema can also manifest in the mouth.
