Demographics of Discoid Eczema
Discoid eczema is a condition that affects both males and females in equal measure. Although it can manifest at any age, it primarily occurs in adults around their thirties. Interestingly, discoid eczema tends to be more prevalent among older adult males and younger adult females. Research has even found a link between alcohol use disorder and the development of discoid eczema in males.
Infections
One of the main complications associated with discoid eczema is the risk of infection. As the affected areas of skin become itchy, the likelihood of infection increases significantly, particularly if there are open blisters or pustules that are oozing. When a plaque appears excessively moist or develops a yellow crust, it is an indication of infection. In addition, the infection can manifest in other symptoms, such as feelings of sickness or abnormal warmth. It is not uncommon for individuals to experience shivering as well.
