Common Types of Heart Disease

Understanding Endocarditis

Endocarditis refers to the inflammation or infection of the inner lining of the heart chambers and valves, known as the endocardium. This condition shares several symptoms with other cardiovascular diseases, making it crucial to seek medical attention when experiencing fever, breathlessness, fatigue, abdominal and leg swelling, irregular heartbeat, persistent cough, or the development of an uncommon rash.

Understanding Valvular Heart Disease

Valvular heart disease refers to the condition that affects the four vital valves in the heart, namely the aortic, mitral, pulmonary, and tricuspid valves. These valves play a crucial role in regulating the flow of blood through the heart.

Unfortunately, various factors can cause damage to these valves, leading to a condition known as stenosis. Stenosis occurs when the valves become narrowed, hindering the smooth flow of blood. In some cases, the valves may also develop leaks, further exacerbating the problem.

The symptoms of valvular heart disease can vary depending on the extent of valve damage. However, there are certain common signs to watch out for. These include irregular heartbeats, fainting spells, persistent fatigue, chest pain, and swelling in the extremities.
