Eating Disorders: The Compulsion to Overeat

Compulsive overeating is a prevalent form of eating disorder that often serves as a coping mechanism for individuals dealing with various stressors. This compulsion typically originates during early childhood, although it can also manifest as a response to excessively strict diets later in life. Those who struggle with compulsive overeating are often cognizant of the detrimental consequences it brings and frequently experience feelings of shame and guilt. Moreover, this condition is closely associated with other mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.

Understanding Compulsive Hoarding

Compulsive hoarding, also referred to as hoarding disorder, is a psychological condition characterized by the excessive accumulation of objects, coupled with an unwillingness or inability to part with them. This compulsive behavior poses various risks, including compromised sanitation, increased fire hazards, and a higher likelihood of injury. As the clutter continues to accumulate, everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning, sleeping, and even navigating through the house become increasingly challenging, if not impossible. In some cases, individuals may exhibit specific hoarding tendencies, focusing their collection efforts on particular items like books or pets.
