How Long Do Symptoms Last?
When it comes to Alice in Wonderland syndrome, the symptoms do not always occur all at once. Typically, the duration of these symptoms can range from five to 20 minutes. However, there are instances where individuals may experience these symptoms for much longer periods, even spanning years or possibly a lifetime. Interestingly, some researchers speculate that certain symptoms, such as time loss, may be a result of the underlying condition causing AIWS rather than the syndrome itself.
Prevalence
Alice in Wonderland syndrome (AIWS) is a condition whose prevalence remains unknown due to the lack of universally accepted diagnostic criteria and large-scale studies. However, available research indicates that approximately 65 percent of all cases occur in children under the age of 18. Among children between the ages of five and 14, males are more prone to experiencing AIWS. However, this gender difference diminishes by the age of 15, and there is no significant disparity in prevalence between males and females. Interestingly, after the age of 16, females are found to be significantly more likely to experience AIWS.
