Ears Ringing? Causes and Treatments

Cause: Ear Infection

Ear infections can be a common cause of ringing in the ears. These infections typically occur in the middle part of the ear and can be caused by either a viral infection, such as a cold or flu, or by bacteria. If left untreated, an ear infection can lead to more severe complications, including mastoiditis, which is inflammation of the bone adjacent to the ear. In some cases, an ear infection can also result in the perforation of the eardrum, hearing loss, and potentially even Meniere’s disease.

Cause: Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is a prevalent factor contributing to the development of tinnitus. This loss can occur due to various reasons, including traumatic incidents, exposure to loud noises, or simply the natural process of aging. In these cases, the cochlea, which is responsible for converting sound vibrations into electrical signals, may sustain damage. Consequently, when the cochlea fails to function effectively, the brain does not receive accurate signals pertaining to the sounds in the environment.
