Understanding Hyperpituitarism
Hyperpituitarism refers to a medical condition where the pituitary gland becomes excessively stimulated, leading to the overproduction of various hormones. This condition encompasses a range of disorders that occur as a result of hormone oversecretion. The primary cause of hyperpituitarism is often attributed to the presence of a pituitary adenoma, a noncancerous tumor that develops in the pituitary gland.
Hypopituitarism
Hypopituitarism is a condition in which the secretion of hormones from the pituitary gland is decreased. When this decrease affects a specific hormone, it is known as selective hypopituitarism. However, if it affects most or all of the pituitary hormones, it is referred to as panhypopituitarism. Similar to hyperpituitarism, the symptoms of hypopituitarism vary depending on the specific hormone that the pituitary gland is failing to secrete.
