What is Mpox or Monkeypox?

Vaccines for Mpox

Protecting yourself from Mpox is possible through the use of vaccines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highly recommends vaccination for individuals who are at a higher risk of contracting Mpox or have recently been exposed to it. By getting vaccinated within four days of exposure, it is possible to prevent the development of the disease. Additionally, even if vaccination is done within 14 days of exposure, it can still help reduce the severity of the infection.

Prevention

To prevent an mpox/monkeypox infection, it is vital to minimize contact with infected animals and reduce person-to-person transmission. Regularly wash your hands with soap and water, disinfect frequently touched surfaces, and avoid coming into contact with clothing, bedding, or other items that may be contaminated with the virus. It is important to stay away from individuals who may be infected with mpox and practice safe sexual intercourse. In healthcare settings, healthcare workers attending to patients with mpox should wear gloves, masks, and gowns. Additionally, patients may be isolated in negative air pressure rooms to prevent the spread of the virus.
