Spreading PUPPP Rash
The PUPPP rash, characterized by itchy raised bumps, can spread and eventually cover various parts of the body such as the abdomen, chest, legs, arms, and feet. However, it is important to note that the face is not affected by PUPPP, and the palms of the hands or the soles of the feet are rarely involved. Interestingly, while the rash often starts on the belly, there is typically a rash-free area surrounding the navel. This distribution of the rash makes it relatively easy for women to hide or conceal the condition if they feel self-conscious about it.
Is PUPPP Harmful to the Baby?
One of the comforting facts for mothers who are struggling with the discomfort and irritation of PUPPP is that it poses no harm to the baby and does not have any long-term negative effects on the mother. Extensive studies have shown that PUPPP does not alter the outcome of the pregnancy, except for a minor correlation with hypertension and the need for induced labor. In such cases, it is advisable for mothers experiencing PUPPP to request a blood pressure check from their healthcare provider, but apart from that, there is little cause for concern.
