Symptoms of Strep Throat in Three-Year-Olds
When a three-year-old child contracts strep throat, the symptoms can resemble those seen in adults. Initially, a mild fever may be present, but as the infection progresses, the body temperature can rise above 102 degrees F. Swollen glands become more prominent, and the tonsils may show signs of pus. Additionally, children of this age often experience the distinctively painful sore throat that commonly accompanies strep throat.
Causes
Strep throat commonly occurs due to an infection caused by a type of bacteria known as group A Streptococcus. These bacteria are commonly found in the nose and throat, which makes them highly contagious through activities like coughing, sneezing, talking, and even breathing. The transmission of infectious bacteria is more prevalent in crowded environments, such as schools and daycares.
