Understanding Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis is a serious gastrointestinal condition that can be both painful and life-threatening. It is characterized by the formation of sores in the inner lining of the large intestine and rectum. Recent research conducted on animals has shown promising results in the potential use of flax oil as a treatment for ulcerative colitis. In a six-week study, different doses of flax oil were administered, and it was observed that the oil had a positive impact on reducing colon cell damage and decreasing disease activity.
Understanding ER-Negative Breast Cancer Cells
ER-negative breast cancer cells are a type of cancer cells that do not depend on estrogen or progesterone for their growth. Consequently, treatments aimed at blocking these hormones have little effect on this form of cancer. The aggressive nature of ER-negative breast cancer cells often leads to rapid growth and a higher mortality rate. However, recent studies have shown promising results in using flaxseed oil and its lignan, SDG, to combat this deadly disease.
Research has demonstrated that certain combinations of doses of flaxseed oil and SDG can induce apoptosis or programmed cell death in ER-negative breast cancer cells. This process helps to slow down the growth of the cancer cells and decrease their ability to spread. In fact, studies have shown a significant reduction in metastasis rates to the lungs, ranging from 16% to 70%. Additionally, the rate of metastasis to distant lymph nodes decreased by 52%, offering hope for more effective treatment options for ER-negative breast cancer.
