French Green Beans: Vegetable and Legume Benefits in One Food

Health Benefits: Improving Cardiovascular Health

French green beans offer a plethora of essential trace minerals such as calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and manganese. These nutrients play a crucial role in various physiological functions, including the maintenance of optimal blood pressure and heart rate. Additionally, the antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and anti-carcinogenic effects of French green beans contribute to the protection and fortification of the cardiovascular system. Furthermore, the high fiber content in these beans inhibits the reabsorption of cholesterol-binding bile acids, effectively reducing cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.

Health Benefits: HIV Treatment

French green beans have been found to have health benefits when it comes to the treatment of HIV. HIV, which stands for human immunodeficiency virus, attacks the body’s ability to fight infection and is currently incurable. However, research conducted in Hong Kong in 2010 discovered that French green beans contain a nutrient that can help slow down the spread of the virus.

The nutrient in question is called hemagglutinin, and it is found in high levels in the seeds of French green beans. Hemagglutinin has been found to inhibit the reproduction of HIV-1 cells, which are the most common form of HIV. In fact, the Hong Kong study revealed that French green beans have between 10 to 85 times more hemagglutinin than other types of beans.
