Simple Cross-Legged Pose
The simple cross-legged pose is a great way to help children unwind and develop strength in their back muscles. This position is often referred to as “crisscross apple sauce” by kids. To practice this pose, encourage children to sit on the floor with their legs crossed and their head reaching upwards. For a peaceful start to their yoga session, children and parents can even try meditating in this pose. Half-Lotus Pose: A Beginner-Friendly Variation
The half-lotus pose is a modified version of the traditional lotus pose, making it an excellent choice for younger learners who may find more challenging postures difficult. While children are naturally flexible, the half-lotus pose still provides a gentle stretch for the hips and legs. To assume this pose, kids can imagine themselves as a beautiful flower, with their legs forming delicate petals and their hands resting gently on their knees. Encourage them to visualize roots extending from their legs into the ground, while their upper body “blooms” upward, creating a sense of groundedness and growth.
