Gallstones Symptoms

If you’ve been fortunate enough to never suffer from gallstones, you may not be familiar with the complexities of the gallbladder. However, for those who have experienced gallstones, the tiny pear-shaped organ can bring about significant discomfort. Gallstones develop when bile, the digestive fluid stored in the gallbladder, solidifies into hardened deposits. When these stones obstruct the common bile duct, the process of food digestion becomes nearly impossible. Symptoms will only manifest when the gallstones become trapped in the bile duct. These symptoms can range from excruciating pain to a dull ache, or even no symptoms at all.

Abdominal Pain that Spreads to the Right Shoulder Blade

Many individuals often experience a dull ache originating from their abdomen, which can extend to the right shoulder blade. The pain is typically continuous and can be misinterpreted as heartburn or indigestion. It is often described as an irritating, persistent sensation that resembles a gnawing discomfort. Additionally, this type of abdominal pain may react to the consumption of fatty and oily foods.

An Intense and Burning Pain

Experiencing an acute pain that is sharp and burns can be quite distressing. This type of pain is typically felt in specific areas such as the abdomen, the right-hand side, under the ribcage, and sometimes even behind the right shoulder blade. Unlike the lingering discomfort of a dull ache, these sharp and burning pains are intense, debilitating, and can persist for anywhere between 1 to 5 hours at a time.
