Characteristics
Grover’s disease is characterized by a small, red, bumpy rash that typically emerges on the chest and back. However, it can also develop on other areas of the body, such as the arms and legs. The majority of individuals with this condition experience intense itching, although there are exceptions. The rash typically manifests as fluid-filled blisters that form over hair follicles, appearing in patches with swollen, red borders surrounding them.
Causes of Grover’s Disease
Grover’s disease is a skin condition whose exact cause is still unknown to doctors. However, they have identified several factors that may contribute to its development. These factors include organ transplantation, exposure to x-rays, kidney failure, as well as the use of antiviral medications and biologic agents. Additionally, prolonged exposure to hot water bottles, electric blankets, and hot tubs, as well as prolonged bed rest, have been found to play a role in the onset of the disease. It is also worth noting that symptoms of Grover’s disease can be triggered or worsened by heat, sweating, and exposure to sunlight.
