Health Benefits and Risks of Using Hot Tubs

Benefits of Hot Tub Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Individuals who suffer from prolonged high blood sugar levels may encounter significant damage to their blood vessels. Research conducted as early as 1999 has indicated that individuals with type 2 diabetes experienced lower blood glucose levels after undergoing hot tub therapy for three weeks. Furthermore, recent studies have further supported these findings, highlighting the potential for reductions in fasting glucose and total cholesterol levels as a result of consistent hot tub use.

Additional Health Benefits of Hot Tub Therapy

A recent study conducted at the University of Oregon has revealed additional health benefits of hot tub therapy. The study involved sedentary healthy adults and obese women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. During the study, the participants were exposed to hot tub therapy sessions for 60 minutes, three to five times per week, over a period of eight weeks. The therapy aimed to increase the subjects’ core body temperature by 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The results of the study were promising. Both groups showed significant improvements in their artery health and blood pressure. This suggests that regular hot tub therapy can have a positive impact on cardiovascular health. The increase in core body temperature during the sessions may have contributed to these improvements.

Hot tub therapy has long been known for its relaxation and stress-relieving effects. However, this study highlights the additional health gains that can be achieved through regular use of hot tubs. It provides further evidence that hot tub therapy can be a valuable addition to overall health and wellness routines.
