Can Evening Primrose Oil Improve Eczema?

Evening primrose oil has been approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, commonly known as eczema, in some countries outside of the United States. Previous studies suggest that the gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) found in evening primrose oil can combat the inflammation associated with eczema and help retain moisture to alleviate dry skin. However, recent systematic reviews have shown that taking oral supplements of evening primrose oil does not effectively improve eczema symptoms. Limited research has been conducted on the topical application of evening primrose oil for the treatment of atopic dermatitis.


Can Evening Primrose Oil Help Reduce Premenstrual Syndrome Symptoms?

Evening primrose oil has been suggested as a potential treatment for various symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), including bloating, irritability, and depression. Scientific studies have shown that the oil’s effectiveness in alleviating these symptoms may be attributed to its conversion of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) into prostaglandin E1. This conversion process is believed to prevent the hormone prolactin from triggering PMS symptoms.

In a study conducted in 2010, a combination of vitamins and evening primrose oil was found to be effective in reducing the effects of PMS. However, it is worth noting that the oil alone may not be solely responsible for these benefits. Systematic reviews have indicated that there is limited evidence supporting the findings of this study, suggesting that further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of evening primrose oil in treating PMS symptoms.
