Can Iodine Intake Help Prevent Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a prevalent concern among women, with one in eight women in the United States being affected by it. However, there seems to be an interesting correlation between iodine intake and breast cancer rates. In Japan, where iodine intake is 50 times higher than in America, both breast cancer and thyroid problems occur at much lower rates. This observation becomes even more apparent when looking at Japanese women who migrate to the United States and adopt a western diet; their incidence of breast cancer significantly increases.

Interestingly, in the United States three decades ago, when iodine intake was considerably higher, only one in 20 women developed breast cancer. This suggests a potential link between iodine intake and breast cancer prevention, warranting further investigation into the role of iodine in maintaining breast health.


May Aid in Cancer Prevention

Research suggests that iodine possesses anticancer properties. In a series of scientific experiments, breast cancer cells were subjected to iodine exposure, which resulted in a reduced likelihood of both cancer spread and growth. The findings indicate that iodine can effectively contribute to the fight against cancer. It is important to note that medical professionals do not advise abandoning conventional cancer treatments. However, incorporating iodine-rich foods or supplements into a cancer patient’s diet may be beneficial and support their journey to recovery.
