Health Impacts of the Endomorph Somatotype

Understanding Historical Perspectives

In the realm of psychology, William Sheldon, a physician and psychologist, introduced a unique concept connecting personality traits to body types. His theory involved categorizing individuals into three somatotypes and assigning specific characteristics to each category. According to Sheldon, individuals classified as endomorphs tended to exhibit more relaxed, comfortable, and extroverted traits. Expanding on this idea, he suggested a link between somatotypes and criminal behavior, proposing that mesomorphs possessed assertive and aggressive personalities, predisposing them to engage in criminal activities. However, Sheldon’s work faced criticism due to its limited sample size and potential confusion between causation and correlation.

Energy and Nutrients

A study conducted on women with an endomorphic body type examined the connection between somatotype, diet, and energy. The findings revealed that endomorphic women have a higher intake of total protein, animal protein, thiamin, vitamin E, and phosphorus compared to ectomorphic or mesomorphic women. Additionally, another study demonstrated that endomorphs and mesomorphs have a negative correlation between energy intake and ectomorphs.
