Impact of COVID-19 on Liver Function
The liver is susceptible to damage caused by COVID-19 due to its various mechanisms, including cellular toxicity and inflammation. A study conducted by experts revealed elevated levels of specific biomarkers in COVID-19 patients, which were associated with more severe symptoms and higher mortality rates. Interestingly, male patients exhibited significantly higher concentrations of these biomarkers, suggesting that they may face a greater risk of experiencing liver-related complications as a consequence of COVID-19 infection.
Coagulation Problems in Severe COVID-19 Cases
Severe cases of COVID-19 can lead to coagulation issues, causing blood clotting problems. A study revealed that more than 70% of COVID-19 patients who died had a relatively uncommon blood clotting disorder, while only 0.6% of survivors had the same condition. Research on coagulation factors indicates that females, particularly those who are premenopausal, tend to have more positive outcomes. On the other hand, males are more prone to experiencing abnormal blood clotting and other related symptoms.
