Information About Testicular Cancer

Alternative Treatment Options

While chemotherapy is the typical course of treatment for non-seminomas due to their rapid growth and resistance to radiotherapy, there are other considerations to take into account. In cases where testicular cancer goes into remission and subsequently reoccurs, doctors may opt for a chemotherapy approach. However, if the individual has previously undergone chemotherapy, doctors will likely suggest a different treatment regimen.

Prognosis and Complications

Testicle cancer has a favorable prognosis, with a five-year survival rate of 95 percent. However, there are potential complications associated with its treatment. One of the main side effects of undergoing chemotherapy or radiation for testicular cancer is infertility. On the other hand, surgical intervention does not impact a person’s fertility as long as at least one testicle remains intact.

It is important to note that long-term effects resulting from treatment may manifest later in life. These effects can include high blood pressure, fatigue, cardiovascular disease, and lung diseases.
