Cause: Congestive Heart Failure
Congestive heart failure is a condition that occurs when the heart becomes too weak to effectively pump enough blood throughout the body. This reduced blood flow can lead to fluid accumulation in different parts of the body, such as the lungs, ankles, feet, legs, and occasionally the abdomen. Common symptoms of congestive heart failure include shortness of breath, fatigue, irregular heart rhythms, and chest pain. These symptoms tend to worsen during physical exertion and while lying down at night.
Diagnosis
Diagnosing edema depends on the specific type and symptoms that the patient presents. Initially, the doctor will conduct a thorough medical history assessment and inquire about the patient’s symptoms. Additionally, a comprehensive physical examination can provide valuable insights into the underlying cause of the edema. However, further diagnostic measures such as blood tests, chest x-rays, and other tests may be required depending on the observations made during the physical examination.
