Lipoma Size: How Big Can They Get?
When it comes to lipomas, they are typically small in size, measuring less than two inches in diameter. However, in rare instances, they can grow much larger. Lipomas that exceed four inches in size are classified as giant lipomas, which are quite uncommon. Individuals who are predisposed to these non-cancerous tumors often experience the development of multiple small growths.
Pain Associated with Lipomas
Lipomas are generally benign growths, but they can induce pain if they are located near or in contact with a nerve. In cases where lipomas have an abundance of blood vessels, they may also cause discomfort, especially when they are deep-seated. Although uncommon, lipomas can even develop within muscles and organs. It is important to note that liposarcoma, a malignant form of lipoma, is a rare and aggressive type of cancer. If a lipoma is suspected to be problematic, a doctor will perform a biopsy to extract a small piece of the lump for further examination and testing.
