Living With a Pacemaker

Airport Security and Pacemakers

Pacemakers, despite containing metal, can trigger airport security scanners, but this does not impact their functionality. However, caution should be exercised with hand-held scanners, as they may pose a risk if held too close to the pacemaker for an extended period of time. Individuals with pacemakers are advised to inform security agents about their device prior to passing through security checkpoints.

Fortunately, full-body scanners have not shown any significant impact on pacemakers and have proven to be a low-risk option for pacemaker users. In the event that a pacemaker is detected on a full-body scanner, the security guard may request to see the individual’s medical device ID card, which serves as verification of the presence of a pacemaker.

Additional Safety Measures for Travelers with Pacemakers

When it comes to traveling with a pacemaker device, there are a few important precautions that individuals should take to ensure a safe and worry-free journey. By following these guidelines, travelers can enjoy their trips without compromising their health.
