Ongoing Research on Maffucci Syndrome
Continuing clinical trials are being conducted to study Maffucci syndrome and its closely related condition, Ollier disease. These trials are exploring the potential of an experimental cancer drug to inhibit the overgrowth of the IDH1 enzyme, which is known to play a role in the development of cancerous cells in individuals affected by these conditions. Notably, the drug has already gained approval from the FDA for treating various types of cancer. If successful, it is expected that this drug could potentially reduce the likelihood of Maffucci cases progressing into malignant cancers.
