Malaise: Understanding the Immune Response
When it comes to infections, our bodies have a remarkable defense mechanism. The immune response is a complex process where white blood cells play a vital role. These cells produce antibodies that specifically target and combat foreign entities like bacteria and viruses. Additionally, they release cytokines, which act as messengers, guiding and coordinating the immune system’s response. However, it’s important to note that malaise, along with other symptoms like fever, rash, and headaches, is actually a consequence of the immune system’s reaction to an infection.
Heart and Lung Disease
Malaise can be a common symptom in individuals suffering from heart and lung diseases such as congestive heart failure or COPD. As these conditions progress, the circulatory and respiratory systems, which are responsible for supplying oxygen to the tissues, may become compromised. When the tissues do not receive an adequate oxygen supply, the heart and lungs are forced to work harder. Consequently, any factor that disrupts the process of oxygenation can contribute to the development of malaise.
