Pancreatic Problems
When the pancreas is not functioning properly, it can lead to the development of yellow eyes and skin. There are two main ways in which this can occur. Firstly, pancreatitis, which is an inflammatory disease, can cause edema or swelling that puts pressure on a part of the duct. This pressure results in hyperbilirubinemia, a condition characterized by abnormally high levels of bilirubin in the body. Secondly, in cases of pancreatic cancer, the tumor can block the bile duct. This obstruction often leads to symptoms such as severe and widespread itchiness, prompting individuals to seek medical attention for a diagnosis.
Understanding Yellow Fever
Yellow fever is a viral infection that is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito. The name of the disease is derived from the symptoms it causes, including jaundice, fever, and headaches. During the second phase of the infection, individuals may also experience yellowing of the eyes and skin, accompanied by a recurrence of high fever and dysfunction of the liver and kidneys. While a vaccine is available, it is important to note that yellow fever can be fatal for approximately 50% of those who reach the second stage of the infection.
