Most Common Causes of Itching

Eczema

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition that affects the barrier layer of the skin and increases its sensitivity. Individuals with a history of asthma and allergies are more likely to develop eczema. While infants are particularly prone to this condition, most of them outgrow it with time. On the other hand, teenagers and adults with eczema experience dry, bumpy, and itchy skin, which can occur anywhere on the body but is commonly found on the neck, hands, inner elbows, ankles, and feet. Unfortunately, there is no cure for eczema, but the aim of treatment is to prevent flare-ups and reduce discomfort.

Ringworm: A Contagious Fungal Infection

Ringworm, a common fungal infection, is known to cause itching and discomfort. This condition presents as an itchy red circular rash with a clear patch in the middle, typically appearing on the trunk, arms, or legs. It is highly contagious and can easily spread from person to person or even from animals to humans. Moreover, ringworm can also be contracted by touching objects contaminated by an infected person or animal, as well as by coming into contact with infected soil. It is worth noting that ringworm shares similarities with other fungal infections such as jock itch and athlete’s foot, which also result in localized itchy rashes.
