Mycoplasma and Infection

Manifestations

Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections primarily affect children between the ages of five and 14, and the symptoms vary depending on the location of the infection within the respiratory tract. Affected individuals may experience a headache, fever, or cough accompanied by a sore throat. A key indication of these infections is abnormal lung sounds. The presence of rhonchi or a rattling sound suggests that the upper airway has been affected, while crackles in the lower lungs indicate the development of pneumonia. It typically takes about six weeks to fully recover from this condition.
