Pregnancy Changes You Might Not Expect

Dealing with Blocked Noses and Nosebleeds during Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings about a multitude of changes in a woman’s body, thanks to the shifting hormones. One such change is the increased likelihood of experiencing nosebleeds. These nosebleeds can occur at any time, even during sleep, but thankfully, they are usually mild. Additionally, hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy can also lead to blocked or stuffy noses.

If you find yourself experiencing a nosebleed, it is important to take immediate action. Sitting forward and applying pressure to the soft part of your nose for 10 to 15 minutes can help stop the bleeding. However, if the bleeding persists, it is advisable to seek medical attention and consult a doctor.

Changes in Skin Pigmentation During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, it’s not uncommon for women to experience various changes in their skin’s appearance. While darker nipples and stretch marks are commonly known, there are other pigmentation changes that can occur as well. Some women may notice that their skin darkens overall, while others may develop melasma or dark patches. Additionally, moles, freckles, and birthmarks may appear darker, and new skin tags may emerge.

Another common skin change during pregnancy is the development of a dark line down the abdomen, known as the linea nigra. This phenomenon is primarily caused by hormonal fluctuations. While the linea alba, a naturally occurring line on the abdomen, is usually the same color as the surrounding skin, the linea nigra appears darker. In some cases, the line may disappear shortly after childbirth, while in others, it may persist for a longer period of time and gradually fade away.
