Pregnant? These Tests Are Likely in Your Future

Anatomy Scan: A Detailed Look at Your Baby’s Development

The anatomy scan, usually conducted around the 20-week mark, is a crucial ultrasound examination during pregnancy. It provides valuable information about the baby’s development, such as measuring the amniotic fluid, evaluating the fetal growth rate, and determining the position of the placenta. During this ultrasound, every part of the baby’s body is meticulously examined to ensure proper growth and development. One of the exciting moments for parents during this scan is the opportunity to discover the sex of their baby.

Glucose Tolerance Test

The Glucose Tolerance Test is a screening method for gestational diabetes, adapted from the test commonly used to diagnose type 2 diabetes. Prior to the test, the expectant mother is required to fast for eight hours. During the procedure, a blood sample is taken, followed by the consumption of a glucose solution. Another blood sample is then collected after drinking the solution. In the event of elevated results, a retest will be scheduled four weeks later. If concerns persist, closer monitoring will be implemented for the duration of the pregnancy.
