Understanding the Flu
Flu, short for influenza, is a viral illness known for its high contagiousness. It can bring about a range of symptoms such as a high fever, cough, fatigue, nasal congestion, and body aches. There are three types of flu viruses – A, B, and C. Types A and B are responsible for causing widespread illness, affecting a large number of people. On the other hand, type C flu typically leads to milder symptoms and has minimal public health impacts.
The flu is easily spread among individuals, especially children, through sneezing and coughing. To alleviate the symptoms associated with the flu, antiviral medications can be prescribed. These medications work to provide relief and help manage the illness effectively.
Head Lice: Myths and Facts
Contrary to popular belief, head lice infestations are not caused by poor hygiene. The condition is actually spread through direct contact with an infected person. Common signs of a head lice infestation include persistent itching, sores on the neck, scalp, or shoulders, the presence of visible lice on the scalp, or lice eggs (also known as nits) on the hair shafts.
To treat head lice, there are several general steps that can be followed. Firstly, over-the-counter pediculicide can be used to eliminate the lice. Afterward, a fine-toothed head lice comb should be used to carefully remove any remaining nits. It is also important to wash any clothing, towels, linens, or other items that may have come into contact with the infested person at least two days before initiating the treatment.
