Concerns during Pregnancy
It is important for expectant mothers to have a conversation with their healthcare provider if they are aware of having skeeter syndrome. This discussion will enable them to explore suitable measures for managing any potential reactions. While numerous topical and over-the-counter medications are generally considered safe for use during pregnancy, it is still advisable to seek professional advice to ensure the safety of these products. This precautionary approach should be followed until the baby has finished breastfeeding.
Differential Diagnosis
When it comes to mosquito bite allergies, it is important to differentiate between skeeter syndrome and severe mosquito bite allergy (SMBA). Although both conditions exhibit exaggerated symptoms in response to mosquito bites, SMBA tends to be more severe. Unlike skeeter syndrome, individuals with SMBA may experience ulcers, scarring, and tissue death following a bite. Furthermore, they may also develop systemic symptoms including liver dysfunction, hematuria, and swelling of the lymph nodes, liver, and spleen.
