The World Health Organization (WHO) dedicates its efforts to comprehending the effects of demineralized and distilled primary water sources on human health. Within the bloodstream, water acts as a carrier for essential electrolytes like sodium and potassium. However, consuming water that lacks significant mineral content can disrupt the body’s ability to maintain homeostasis, which refers to the ideal balance of water and electrolytes. Such an electrolyte imbalance can have a detrimental impact on cellular functions throughout the entire body.


Understanding Hyponatremia

Hyponatremia, also known as water intoxication or water poisoning, can occur as a result of consistent or excessive intake of distilled water. This condition can cause the body to gradually lose essential minerals, but it can also occur suddenly. Hyponatremic shock, characterized by severely altered electrolyte concentrations, is commonly seen after intense physical activity followed by excessive water consumption.

When engaging in strenuous physical activities, the body sweats and loses minerals. If large amounts of water with low mineral content are consumed rapidly, the electrolyte balance in the body can be disrupted. This imbalance can lead to severe symptoms, such as brain edema and convulsions.
