Signs of a Weak Immune System

Understanding Internal Inflammation in Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders

Primary immunodeficiency disorders can sometimes lead to the development of excessive inflammatory cells in various parts of the body, other than the lymph nodes. These clusters of cells, known as granulomas, have the ability to accumulate in the lungs, liver, and even the skin. In cases where the body is not producing enough protective white blood cells or is mistakenly attacking its own red blood cells, these inflammatory bodies can multiply rapidly, resulting in severe inflammation or infection within crucial organs.

Allergies and Immunodeficiency

Allergies are often caused by an overactive immune system that mistakenly reacts to harmless substances such as dust and pet hair. However, it is important to note that allergies can also indicate an underlying immunodeficiency. Individuals with weakened immune systems may experience difficulties in distinguishing between allergic reactions and infections that require medical intervention. For instance, symptoms like rhinosinusitis or the accumulation of fluid and pressure in the nasal passageways can be attributed to either allergies or infections. Similarly, doctors may mistakenly diagnose asthma when it could actually be pneumonia in individuals with immunodeficiencies.
