Signs of Kidney Failure

Fatigue: A Common Symptom of End-Stage Renal Disease

One of the most prevalent symptoms experienced by individuals with end-stage renal disease is fatigue. The primary culprit behind this persistent tiredness is anemia, characterized by a reduction in the oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells. The impaired functioning of the kidneys allows toxins and impurities to accumulate within the body, which detrimentally impacts energy levels. Consequently, the body goes into overdrive, striving to protect itself from the damaging effects of these toxins. As a result, individuals often experience feelings of exhaustion, weakness, and a general sense of unwellness. Moreover, people with kidney disease are also at a higher risk of developing sleep apnea, a condition that further exacerbates the depletion of energy levels.

Breathing Difficulties in Individuals with Kidney Failure

Individuals who have kidney failure commonly encounter difficulties in breathing. This symptom, known as shortness of breath, is particularly concerning as it arises from the accumulation of excess fluid in the lungs and surrounding areas. Additionally, individuals with heart failure may also experience this symptom. Moreover, for those with end-stage renal disease, anemia can further worsen their shortness of breath. Consequently, individuals suffering from this symptom may find it challenging to engage in prolonged physical activities or to assume a flat position while lying down.
