Symptoms and Treatments for Hypothermia

Symptom: Weak Pulse

When experiencing severe hypothermia, individuals may exhibit a weak pulse, as the heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure decrease. An indication of this is the bluish and swollen appearance of not only the lips and ears but also other exposed parts of the body. It is crucial to seek immediate medical attention in such cases.

Symptom: Fatigue

One of the common symptoms of hypothermia is fatigue. When the body is exposed to cold temperatures, it redirects blood from the brain to vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys. As a result, the brain receives less blood flow and oxygen, leading to drowsiness and a feeling of fatigue. In severe cases of hypothermia, individuals may even find themselves instinctively curling up in a ball and seeking shelter in tight spaces to conserve their body’s diminishing heat reserves.
