Treatment: Shower
After successfully removing urushiol oils from the skin using alcohol, taking a shower is highly recommended to enhance the healing process. It is important to use a mild soap and thoroughly wash under the fingernails, as they may have come into contact with the oil while scratching, potentially spreading the rash to other areas like the face. For optimal results in reducing symptoms, it is advised to shower within one hour of exposure. Additionally, any other items that may have been in contact with the oil, such as clothing, gear, and shoes, should also be washed.
Treatment: Cold Compress
Utilizing a cold compress can prove to be an efficient solution for alleviating itching, swelling, and inflammation. To create a basic compress, dampen a washcloth with cold water and gently apply it to the affected area for approximately 15 to 30 minutes at consistent intervals. For enhanced relief, some individuals opt to soak their washcloths in alcohol or other astringents such as apple cider vinegar or chilled black tea, as this can aid in reducing swelling and soothing itching sensations.
