Intussusception, also known as ‘telescoping,’ is a severe medical condition characterized by the sliding of one part of the intestine into the adjacent section. This abnormality can lead to a partial or complete blockage of the bowel, potentially cutting off the blood supply to the affected area of the intestine.
1. Symptom: Intense abdominal discomfort
When babies suffer from intussusception, they may suddenly start crying due to intense abdominal discomfort. They might even pull their legs towards their chest to find some relief. The pain associated with this condition is typically sporadic, happening every 15-20 minutes. As time goes on, these painful episodes may become more prolonged.
2. Symptom: Vomiting
One of the symptoms of certain medical conditions is vomiting. Initially, vomiting episodes may be involuntary and occur without any feeling of nausea. However, as the condition worsens and leads to intestinal obstruction, the individual may start experiencing nausea along with vomiting. If a young child is repeatedly vomiting, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention from a healthcare professional.
