Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Gynecomastia

Treatment: Medication

Gynecomastia is a condition that usually resolves on its own. However, if the condition persists, there are medications available that may help. Certain medications used to treat breast cancer have been found to be effective in treating gynecomastia in men. It is important to note that while these medications are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for their intended use, they are not specifically approved for the treatment of gynecomastia.

Treatment: Surgical Options for Gynecomastia

When gynecomastia persists and causes significant discomfort, surgery may be recommended as a treatment option. There are two surgical procedures commonly used for treating gynecomastia. The first one is liposuction, which involves the removal of excess breast fat while keeping the breast gland tissue intact. The second procedure is mastectomy, where the surgeon completely removes the breast gland tissue. Mastectomies are often performed using endoscopic techniques, allowing for a quicker recovery period compared to traditional surgery methods.
