Symptoms of Goiter

Swallowing Challenges Caused by Goiter

One common symptom of goiter is difficulty swallowing. When your throat feels lumped, it can become challenging to swallow as it seems like there is an obstruction. This sensation occurs when an enlarged thyroid gland presses against your esophagus, making the act of swallowing more arduous. In some cases, you might experience a sensation of food getting stuck in your throat or notice an increase in acid reflux due to the presence of a goiter.

Craving Salt

Craving salty foods could be a sign of a goiter caused by an iodine deficiency. When the body lacks iodine, it tends to crave the very thing it needs. So, if you find yourself reaching for potato chips and salt more often than usual, along with experiencing other symptoms, there is a possibility that a goiter may be developing.
