Swelling: A Common Symptom of Interstitial Nephritis
One of the most common symptoms of interstitial nephritis is swelling, which can affect any part of the body. Typically, this symptom is first noticed in the ankles, legs, and feet. However, in some cases, swelling may also occur in the face or hands. The underlying reason for this swelling is the impaired ability of the kidneys to remove fluid from the blood efficiently. As a result, waste products and excess fluid accumulate in the body’s tissues, leading to swelling.
Unexplained Weight Gain
Unexplained weight gain can be attributed to chronic fluid retention, which occurs when waste by-products are trapped in the body. In cases of interstitial nephritis, a condition that causes swelling due to fluid retention, some individuals may experience unexplained weight fluctuations or increases that cannot be accounted for by changes in diet or exercise habits.
