The varicella-zoster virus, responsible for causing shingles, never completely leaves the body, making it possible for some individuals to suffer from multiple episodes of the disease. To reduce the risk of shingles reoccurring, the Center for Disease Control highly recommends getting vaccinated. This vaccine is available for individuals who have reached the appropriate age or have already dealt with the condition in the past.
Is Shingles Contagious?
Understanding whether shingles is contagious or not is essential. In general, shingles is not contagious for most adults. However, it is crucial to note that the virus responsible for shingles is the same virus that causes chickenpox. Therefore, if you come into contact with someone who has not had chickenpox or the vaccine, there is a possibility they may contract the virus and develop chickenpox.
It is important to highlight that the transmission of the shingles virus occurs through direct contact with an open blister. This means that you can only transmit the virus if you have direct contact with someone’s open blister.
