What You Should Know About a Broken Nose

Symptoms of a Nasal Fracture

When someone experiences a nasal fracture, there are several common symptoms to be aware of. The first and most noticeable sign is the presence of pain. Additionally, swelling in and around the nose, along with bruising around the eyes, is often observed. In many cases, the nose may appear crooked or bent, and touching it may produce a crackling or crunching sound. Other symptoms that can occur include nosebleeds, runny noses, and blockages in the nasal passages.

Mild Nose Fractures

Often, individuals with mild nose fractures are unaware of their condition and may not seek medical treatment. However, it is important to address these fractures as they can cause damage to the mucous membranes in the nose, resulting in nosebleeds, moderate swelling, and discomfort. To alleviate these symptoms, it is recommended to take over-the-counter pain medication and apply ice packs to the affected area multiple times a day. This will help reduce swelling and promote healing. Typically, pain and swelling will subside within one to two weeks. Nevertheless, it is always advisable to seek medical attention if you have sustained an injury to your nose or face or suspect a nose fracture.
