Stepping Techniques in Tai Chi
When it comes to tai chi, the way you step plays a crucial role in transitioning between movements. It is important to approach stepping with a gentle and smooth manner. To achieve this, start by placing one foot in front of the other while maintaining an equal distribution of weight between both feet. As you step, aim to do so slowly with a rolling motion, ensuring that your center of gravity remains low.
Around the World Posture
To perform the Around the World posture, start by extending your arms out in front of your body. Curve your arms outwards as if you are holding a large ball with both hands. Imagine that one hand is on the very top of the ball. Remember to soften your knees for better balance and stability.
Now, step sideways with your right leg and simultaneously turn your body to the right. As you take this step, allow your body weight to shift to the other side of your body. Inhale deeply as you rotate your hands so that the hand that was at the top is now at the bottom.
Once you have completed the rotation to the right, shift your body weight over to your left leg. Exhale slowly and smoothly as you continue the rotation towards the left. This movement will help improve flexibility and mobility in your upper body, while also engaging your core muscles for stability.
