Six to 16 Months: The Incisors
During the period of six to 16 months, your little one will start developing their incisors, which are the first set of teeth to appear. The lower central incisors, located at the front of the mouth, usually start to emerge between six and 10 months of age. Following this, the upper incisors begin to come in between eight months and one year. These baby teeth will eventually be replaced, with your child losing them around the age of six.
Between the ages of nine and 13 months, the upper lateral incisors come in, while the lower ones emerge between 10 and 16 months. However, just like the previous set of teeth, these “baby” incisors will also be shed when your child reaches the age of seven or eight. It is around this time that the permanent incisors start to erupt, typically between seven and nine years of age.
The First Molars: Nine to 16 Months
Located at the back of the mouth, the molar teeth play a crucial role in grinding the food we eat. These teeth come in various shapes and sizes. The upper first molars usually emerge between 13 and 19 months of age, while the lower first molars appear between 14 and 18 months. Around the age of nine to 11, both upper and lower molars are typically shed, making way for the permanent or “adult” molars to take their place.
