The Dangers of Pneumonitis

Medications and Drugs

There are certain medications and drugs that have the potential to induce pneumonitis. This category includes antibiotics, select chemotherapy medications, and specific treatments for heart disease. It is worth noting that pneumonitis can even develop as a result of an aspirin overdose. Furthermore, individuals may experience pneumonitis as an allergic or adverse reaction to any medication, which can lead to various complications.

Radiation Therapy and Pneumonitis

When individuals undergo radiation therapy, particularly when targeting the chest area, there is a possibility of developing a condition called pneumonitis. This form of radiation therapy is commonly used in the treatment of breast or lung cancer. Additionally, individuals who require a bone marrow transplant may undergo whole-body radiation therapy as a preparation for the procedure, which can also lead to the development of pneumonitis in rare cases.
